2100 Copenhagen Ø is a beautiful, tranquil district of Copenhagen where you can enjoy time-honoured classic architecture as well as trendy new restaurants and shopping streets. Given Hotel Charlottehaven’s central location in Østerbro, we know the neighbourhood quite well, so here are our top recommendations.

Wide boulevards, trendy designer shops and green oases. Located north of the city centre, Østerbro is one of Copenhagen’s most attractive residential areas, especially for young families.

Centrally located in Østerbro, just 300 metres from Nordhavn Station, Hotel Charlottehaven is one of the few hotels tucked away between modern neighbourhoods like Nordhavn and Østerbro classics such as Kastellet, the Little Mermaid and Fælledparken park. We go for our daily walk in Østerbro, and we’ve brought together our best recommendations right here.

THINGS TO SEE IN ØSTERBRO:

There’s something to suit all tastes in Østerbro – including classic sights and art collections. Be sure to put on your walking shoes because there’s a good chance you will be doing a lot of walking.

Tourist attractions
The Little Mermaid lures visitors from all over the world, and Kastellet and the whole of the Langelinie area is also certainly worth a visit, whatever the season.

For art lovers
The collection of modern art at Den Frie is a must, as is the Hirschsprung Collection, a collection of classic paintings. And then there’s always the classic National Gallery of Denmark on the edge of Østerbro.

Local people’s favourites
Every weekend there is a flea market on Remissen at Blegdamsvej, where you can expect to bag a bargain! And on your way back to the hotel room, make sure you swing by Brumleby – a collection of old workers’ villas, now some of Østerbro’s top ‘des-res’ homes!

Evening activities
If you don’t want to spend the evening in the hotel, there is a rich cultural scene in Østerbro. Denmark’s national stadium, Parken, is the venue for both football matches and mega-concerts. Close to Charlottehaven you will also find several cinemas – including the new Big Bio Nordhavn and the classic Park Bio. Finally, there are plenty of opportunities for a drink or an early-evening beer in Østerbrogade, Bopa Plads square or the Aarhusgade district.

SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS:

Whichever way you look at Østerbro, it’s a family-friendly district. And, of course, that means there’s plenty to keep the youngest members of the family busy.

Playgrounds
There are three playgrounds within a short walk of the hotel: at Aarhus Plads, Bopa Plads and Silkeborg Plads squares. Nearby you will find what you might call a playground for both children and adults, Konditaget Lüders in Nordhavn. Here you will find exercise facilities, trampolining, swings, a climbing spiral – and fantastic views of Nordhavn.

Fælledparken is a green park with a skate park and a traffic playground where the whole family can have fun.

Trampoline park
AirTrix is one of the largest trampoline parks in Europe. Have fun in the many trampolines, ninja-warrior courses, parkour, dodgeball, basketball or the large climbing park.

Ceramics and the beach

The older children can unleash their creativity at Creative Space and create their own ceramics. If the weather is nice, there’s also Østerbro’s own beach, Svanemollen, quite close to Hotel Charlottehaven.

The locals love a harbour cruise!
And here’s a little insider tip: Instead of going on the classic harbour cruise in Copenhagen harbour, hop on the newly opened harbour bus route in Nordhavn. The route will take you past Refshaleøen, Christianshavn, the Opera House and much more. Just for the price of a bus ticket. You can walk there from the hotel, and there is room for pushchairs etc. on board.

If the weather isn’t too good, or if you feel like a bit more indoor fun at the hotel, read about Charlottehaven’s child-friendly facilities here.

RESTAURANTS AND CAFES:

Whether you are looking for fine dining or just a good cup of coffee, you will find it in Østerbro, close to Hotel Charlottehaven.

Make it special!
For something extra special, try Geranium with three Michelin stars (if you can get a table) or Gro Spiseri at the top of Østerbro.

Favourites
Østerbro favourites Pixie and Ø12 are well known and cherished for their great café food. Madklubben Østerbro and PS Bar & Grill are perfect if you want to combine good food with drinks (and within walking distance of the hotel!). And then we also have to recommend one of the favourites: Ramen to Biiru Østerbro – especially when the weather is a bit nippy.

Something sweet
If you fancy something sweet before returning to the hotel, try cake at Leckerbar or grab an ice lolly at Olufs. Or one of Copenhagen’s most popular bakeries, Juno the bakery, just 600 metres from Charlottehaven.

When you’ve had your fill eating out, you can always consider the hotel’s own restaurant, which is open for breakfast and lunch.

SHOPPING IN ØSTERBRO:

Østerbro is full of delightful shops with the best of fashion, Danish design and interior décor. Many well-known Danish brands have their flagship stores in fashionable Østerbro, but you will find lots of little local gems too.

Clothing and shoes
Head over to the iconic Goods or Wils for men – and Stine Goya, Ganni and Moshi Moshi Mind for women. To name just a few.

Interiors and design
If you’re more into interiors, make sure you take a look at WAUW ceramics, the MENU showroom or perhaps the world’s smallest interiors shop, Privé.

It’s brilliant that Hotel Charlottehaven is close to all these places, so you can always pop your shopping bags in your hotel room before moving on to the next store.
